THE PINERY… is the everyday name we call the City of Kawartha Lakes Victoria Forest Somerville Tract. It is a vast area covering 3420 hectares planted as early as 1929 for timber production. The old logging roads have been updated and added to for recreational use.
THE PEOPLE… are various motorized and non-motorized user groups such as ATVers… off-road motorcyclists… cyclists… walkers…nature lovers… X-country skiers… hikers… snowmobilers and hunters(in season).
A COMMITTEE… called The City of Kawartha Lakes Forest Users Group Somerville Tract was formed several years ago. They meet regularly at the Burnt River Fire Hall to report to Council with input regarding trail upgrades and reducing risk for all riders and walkers alike. “We want you all to enjoy the Pinery in your own special way.”
